Jim Hogenson is founder and President of Avalon Engineering, LLC. Jim studied electronic engineering at North Dakota State University and Computer Science at Moorhead State University. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. Jim has been designing real time control systems, hardware and software, since 1978. Jim has worked with a variety of applications including industrial, medical, scientific, and commercial. Experience includes development of entire product lines for some companies. Jim specializes in embedded real time control systems and embedded networks for control applications. Two of many example projects are shown at right.

Mark Clark is Vice President of Avalon Engineering. Mark studied electronics technology at Anoka Technical College with emphasis on research and development. Mark holds an Electronic Technician Certificate with R&D Attachment. Mark specializes in printed circuit board design with emphasis on design for manufacturability, design for testability, and EMI issues. Mark has been working with a variety of applications since 1981 including medical, industrial, commercial and consumer. Mark is experienced in new product development as well as continuation engineering such as surface mount conversions and value engineering or design improvements for cost reduction.

Jim designed the hardware and software for an industrial controller optimized for plastic extrusion. Design tasks included development of a graphical user interface and user friendly operator panel, in addition to control of the various machinery that constitute the entire production line. An enhanced digital PID algorithm was developed for control of 32 temperature zones. The system became recognized in its industry as the most operator friendly system on the market.
